Press Release Ref: HTC/2018, 18 January 2018 Has anyone seen our missing Silent Soldier??? To commemorate the Centenary of the end of World War One, the Surrey Royal British Legion is inviting sponsors of “Silent Soldiers”, which they hope will appear on roundabouts, in parks and in many other places across Surrey. Horley Town Council has been delighted to sponsor three Silent Soldiers, one of which was funded by donations from Town Councillors. Two of the Soldiers have been sited in the Memorial Gardens, the other one on the grassed area across the road from the Shell/Little Waitrose roundabout, between the MAD Ideas sponsored flower beds. Sadly, at some point over the Christmas period this particular Soldier vanished. The Town Council is shocked at this blatant act of vandalism to something commemorating such a poignant occasion, especially as the Soldiers have been deliberately produced from non-valuable materials. However, if someone wishes to return the Soldier either to its site or to the Town Council Offices, we guarantee that no questions will be asked and no further action taken. Equally if anyone has spotted the Soldier anywhere, please could they let us know. We hope that it will not be too long before our Silent Soldier is returned and thank anyone who may be able to assist us in our search!
