M23 Closure between Junction 10 and 9 for road works
Please see below details of some significant roadworks starting on the M23 this weekend. Between Junction 10 and 9 (northbound) the concrete section under the road surface has dramatically deteriorated and requires replacing urgently. This work must take place before the Smart Motorways Project starts construction in May 2018.
The road works require full closure of the M23 (northbound) between junction 10 and 9 and will take place from 22:00 on Friday evening to 04:00 on Monday morning over the following weekends:
Friday 12 January to Monday 15 January
Friday 19 January to Monday 22 January
Friday 26 January to Monday 29 January
Friday 2 February to Monday 5 February
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures for the following routes:
Gatwick Airport: Northbound traffic for Gatwick Airport will exit the M23 at Junction 10 and take the A2011 (Crawley Avenue) to the A23 (London Road) to North Terminal Roundabout and Airport Way for access to South Terminal.
M25: Northbound traffic for the M25 will exit at Junction 10 and follow the A264 through Copthorne, turning left (northbound) onto the A22 at the traffic lights at Felbridge. Traffic will continue northbound on the A22, reaching the M25 at Junction 6 – Godstone Interchange.
Only the northbound carriageway is affected by these works. The southbound carriageway will be open as normal for all traffic to Gatwick Airport/Brighton.
However, GAL is expecting there to be a lot of traffic and congestion on local roads, particularly in Crawley. Unfortunately, there is also a bus replacement service in operation between Three Bridges and Brighton all weekend. GAL has raised concerns about this clash with Highways England and Network Rail.
