Successful Bid for Outdoor Fitness Equipment
Horley Town Council is delighted to announce that its application for a grant from the London Marathon Charitable Trust has been successful. The amount awarded is £10,000 and will be used to provide additional fitness equipment to create an outdoor gym at the Horley Recreation Ground.
Competition for funds from the Trust was particularly stiff. Trustees awarded grants totalling more than £4.8 million to 56 projects in London, 1 in South Northamptonshire, 1 in Aylesbury Vale and 12 in Surrey. This includes a sum of £200,000 as a further reserve for major projects such as the preservation of playing fields and £1,150,000 to support Olympic Legacy projects. This brings the total allocated to recreational schemes in areas where The London Marathon Limited stages events to more than 1,100 projects totalling over £57 million in the last 35 years.
The Leisure & Amenities Committee reviewed the project at its recent meeting on 6 January 2015 and is seeking estimates from various contractors.
