Himalayan Balsam Project

At the end of the Annual Town meeting, Cllr David Powell gave a presentation on the Town Council’s project to eradicate Himalayan Balsam, an invasive species. It is a major weed problem, especially on river banks and waste land. It grows rapidly and spreads quickly, smothering other vegetation as it grows. Both banks of the River Mole that run through Horley are heavily infested with Himalayan Balsam. The action plan was explained at the meeting. David explained how a number of volunteers had already assisted in this work but more assistance would be required to pull up any plants which might remain after the areas have been treated with a safe herbicide.

People may volunteer their services through the Town Council Offices. Please contact the council offices if you require further information.
