Smile, Smiles and More Smiles

Smiles were everywhere for the official opening of the newly refurbished playground at Michael Crescent Centenary Park on Saturday 12 October. The ribbon was cut by Reigate & Banstead Mayor Cllr Eddy Humphries who commented that, ‘We’re delighted to see such high quality facilities being delivered by our partner council Horley Town Council. I’m sure this will get a lot of enjoyment from local residents and visitors to Horley’

The improvements to the playground saw a raft of new equipment installed that aims to cater for a range of ages and different abilities. New features include a multiplay castle, swings with special seats for disabled children, balance obstacles, a hammock for chilling and a quiet sensory area.

The refurbishment of the playground was made possible by a grant from the Reigate & Banstead Borough Council Community Infrastructure Levy fund. This is part of a wider programme of  improvements to the park by Horley Town Council that has seen the demolition of the derelict building there that has been unusable for some time.

Cllr Martin Saunders, Horley Town Council Mayor said, ‘We’re delighted to bring this exciting new playground to the Riverside area of Horley. The funding for this new playground came from a levy on local developers building housing in the borough, and so it is particularly pleasing that we were able to provide this playground refurbishment with support from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council without using taxpayers money.’
