Council Marks Installation of Defib with Free Emergency 1st Aid Course
Thanks to a grant from Surrey County Councillor Andy Lynch's YFS Small Community Projects Fund, we have installed a new 24hr Access defibrillator at the Innes Pavilion on Court Lodge Fields.
To mark the installation and with help from Horley United's Anthony Jupp, we arranged for Surrey Fire & Rescue to run a free Emergency First Aid course last Saturday. The training was attended by members of the public, Horley Town Councillors and some of the football teams that use Court Lodge as their home ground.
The main aim of the training was to dispel some of the myths around the use of the defibrillator and to give people the skills and confidence to have a go should they find themselves in that situation. We hope to have another course later in the summer, if you are interested in attending please let us know by emailing town.clerk@horleytown.com
We'd like to extend a massive thanks to Pat from Surrey Fire & Rescue for showing us all how to perform CPR and use the defibrillator.
Did you know?
- An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable life-saving device that can give a casualty’s heart an electric shock, when it has stopped beating normally in a sudden cardiac arrest.
- A defibrillator works by checking the casualty's heart rhythm once the defibrillator pads are placed on their chest and giving them a shock if needed.
- Defibrillators can be used on adults or children over one years old.
- By using a defibrillator before an ambulance arrives, you can significantly increase someone’s chance of survival by up to 70%.
