Pickleball at The Rec

This weekend a second tennis court was overlaid with pickleball lines. Horley Lions were approached for funding by local pickleballers and agreed to pay for the line markings. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the US and is growing in popularity in the UK. It's best described as a combination of badminton, ping-pong and tennis. The smaller courts and slower balls mean it can be played by people with a bigger range of mobility and fitness. Horley Lions are hoping to use their funds to encourage health and well-being, combat loneliness, provide support for good mental health and inclusion.

Horley Town Council first added pickleball lines to a court in 2021 and provided the local Pickleball club with some equipment. It is one of only two outdoor sites in the Borough where pickleball can be played. If you are interested in a taster session local, pickleball enthusiastic Wendy McGurrin can be contacted on themcgurrins@blueyonder.co.uk
