Horley Edmonds Community Fund

Horley Town Council in partnership with Surrey Community Foundation has launched a new Community Fund for Horley.

The Horley Edmonds Community Fund was established with a capital sum from a bequest to the Horley Town Council by Cyril Edmonds, a well known builder who lived at Norwood Hill. The fund will be held and administered by Surrey Community Foundation and the capital sum will be invested to create a permanent fund for Horley. The interest generated from the fund will be used each year to award grants to support local voluntary and community groups and charities.

Simon Marshall, Chairman of Horley Town Council said ‘This is a very generous bequest from Cyril Edmonds. The funding will support communities in perpetuity and will help people in need in our local area. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Surrey Community Foundation to enable Horley to build permanent community funds. The initial capital sum will be increased with additional donations from local residents and from fundraising activities. This will increase the amount available annually to support local community projects.’

Professor Patrick Dowling, Chairman of Surrey Community Foundation said ‘The Horley Edmonds Community Fund is a fine example of ‘Inspiring Local Giving for Local Need’. We congratulate Horley Town Council on this innovative step and hope that it will be the first of many across Surrey enabling communities to make a real difference locally.’

The Fund will support projects and activities that benefit people who live within the Horley parish boundary. Voluntary and community groups, charities and local residents may apply to the Horley Edmonds Community Fund using Surrey Community Foundation’s Grant process and application form. Leaflets giving further information are available from the Town Council, Help Shop and Library.

Surrey Community Foundation is a recently established charity aiming to inspire local giving for local needs. The Community Foundation works with both donors who want to give something back to their local communities and the voluntary groups providing vital services for local people. Individuals, families and companies can establish a fund within the Community Foundation which supports a growing programme of grant-making to communities across Surrey.

Donations to the Horley Edmonds Community Fund can be made at any level – as gifts or legacies of cash, shares, property or land and is a very tax efficient way of supporting local communities.
