Horley Youth Council

A meeting will be held on Wednesday 14 July at 1830 hrs at Horley Town Football Club, Court Lodge to select representatives from various youth bodies to create a Horley Youth Council.

From the earlier meeting of 4th March it was agreed that, as an interim measure for its first year of operation, representatives would be selected (rather than stand for election). It was also recommended that The Youth Council should consist of youths aged between 13 - 19 years old, but it was duly noted that this was a wide range, and that the age range may need to be reviewed at a later date. The steering committee agreed that procedures and terms of reference should be flexible as they are likely to change once the Youth Council becomes established. Administration, location and finance will also be issues for discussion.

The members of the first Youth Council will therefore be appointed at the meeting and will be invited to hold their first youth council meeting as soon as possible after that date.

It is suggested that each association should nominate one or two members to stand. The appointed representatives are expected to stand for a term of 12 months, after which they will conduct their own elections. The appointed representatives will elect their own officials e.g. Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary. We are hoping that an officer from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council will assist the Youth Council with the administration. Please complete the attached nomination form and return by 9th July.

It is important to have representation from your organisation, so if you are unable to attend, but wish to nominate a representative in your absence, then please let Horley Town Council know also by 9th July.
