Description: |
Helping children aged 5 to 16 years old to overcome their fear of dogs, "From Fear to Friend" (FFF) was set up in 2015 in Horley near Reigate/Redhill/Gatwick on the Surrey/Sussex border, by Ann Cook KCAI C&G Certified Dog Training Instructor and Steph Page, Trainer - KCGC Bronze Judge.
The aim of this voluntary group, From Fear to Friend, is to introduce the children to the dogs very slowly - from viewing them through a window if necessary in the first instance, to being able to relax and be in the dogs company without worrying. The children only come into contact with the dogs when they decide that they are ready to do so - they are always in control!
The dogs have been specially trained for the task and have passed a 28 point assessment. They are always under the control of their competent handlers, who hold them on the lead at all times. FFF uses the Kennel Club Safe and Sound Scheme and Bark and Read Programme. The trainers (Ann and Steph) have been trained too, and have attended classes with the original Cynophobia (fear of dogs) group in Essex, which has been successfully running for over 20 years.
