Town Council Success - South & South East in Bloom
We are delighted to announce that Horley Town Council won two prestigious awards at this year’s South & South East in Bloom Awards Ceremony, which was held on 7 September 2011, at Fontwell Park Racecourse. We were very pleased to receive a Silver Gilt Award for the Town Centre, a big improvement on the Silver Award won in previous years. For the third year running, a Silver Gilt Award was also won for Horley Recreation Ground. The judges were impressed with the good use of tiered planters, banners and shop window posters around the town centre. They remarked that the town centre was “spotless” and were impressed by the Town Council’s efforts to improve the town.
Cllrs Simon Marshall, Chairman & Town Mayor, and Jack Chapman, Chairman of the Leisure Committee, received the awards from the Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins. Cllr Marshall said, “I was delighted to receive another Silver Gilt Award for Horley Recreation Ground and extremely proud to receive our first Silver Gilt Award for the town centre. I am sure that the sponsors of our town centre flowers will be particularly pleased to hear this news. We were also very glad that Douglas House entered the “It’s Your Neighbourhood” category of the competition this year and we will be presenting their award to them soon.”
The Town Council will be holding its own Awards Ceremony for the Horley in Bloom and other associated competitions at the end of this month. This will take place at Regent Hall on Friday 30 September."
